An American in Chengdu

In which I contemplate joining the red army | October 1, 2009

Image borrowed from CCTV

My favorite part of today’s televised military spectacular was the fembots–er, lady soldiers. Actually I preferred the chartreuse deep carmine pink uniforms, but couldn’t find a picture of them to borrow.

I’m not sure where you could catch a rerun of the whole event in the States, but if you’re interested in parades, or China, I definitely recommend the second half (starting at 1:20 or so). That’s when the military inspection has finished and the floats come out.

UPDATE: I found a picture of those fetching uniforms. The NY Times mentions the fembots in the lede for its story on the 60th.

  2. I suppose it was only a matter of time before all the US-trained Chinese nationals returned home and took cutting edge float technology with them.

    About me

I've come to Sichuan in search of adventure, fluency in Chinese, and awesome vegetarian food. I have to concede that the baby pandas are very cute.
